History of our Community

Brief Church history

The Universal (Catholic) Church is comprised of the 24 churches that recognize the authority of the Pope - The Roman Rite (Latin Church) plus 23 Eastern Rites. The Byzantine Rite (Ruthenian Church) is by far the largest of the 23. Continue reading “The Other 23 Catholic Churches and Why They Exist”

Worship in the Eastern Church involves all the senses. The eyes are filled with the beauty of God's house as expressed in the splendor of its interior, and thus invoking a sense of the Divine. The ears are filled with the Heavenly songs of praise, while the is unite their song with those of the Heavenly hosts. A fragrant aroma fills the nostrils and the wafting smoke of incense rises Heavenward like prayers drifting up to God. The Divine (Holy) Liturgy is the term the Eastern church uses for the Mass. It is always celebrated with great reverence and awe.

The sanctuary where the sacred sacrifice takes place is holy because it is the meeting place of Heaven and earth. It is also the place where Christ resides on the Holy table.

Although God has revealed Himself to us in this celebration, the fullness of God's glory and His Divinity is still a great mystery.

Where we began

Our community began in 2019 in the Villages, FL under the leadership of Rev. Oleksiy Nebesnyk, and with the guidance of Rev. Robert Evancho, and The Most Reverend Eparch Kurt Burnette

How it’s going

As our growing community gathered to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, Bishop Kurt commended us for our growth and perseverance, which rekindled the flame for bringing others to the beauty of our traditions. We had a great time at the meal that followed at the hall, and thus extend our gratitude to the people of Christ Lutheran for offering to share a welcoming worship space.

What’s next

We aim to have more regular parishioners with the hopes to one day build our own worship space where all will be welcomed. We intend to achieve the canonical status of “Mission” and eventually “Church”

We ask you pray for our community for continued growth and success.
